It's so common that I have a theory that the reason why they dislike Tails so much is because they never truly grow into an adult mentally so to them Child characters are a direct competition to their existence in their head. They don't think or act like rational adults who would see a cute cartoon character and go "oh that's nice" or if they don't like them go "eh, not my cup of tea." No, to them when they see Tails get attention and love they automatically feel offended because to them and their childish insecurities, they are directly competing with another child for said love and attention. The idea or thought that these are fictional characters and simple pictures is lost to them, their brain simply does not and cannot process this information. So they rage and get confused why people ignore them or laugh at them so they rage harder and harder and harder until they go complete schizo. You can watch this exact thing play out in this thread on nearly a daily basis.
