Pretty fucked up story from when I was working hospital security.
It was like a week from Christmas. I'm making junkies empty their pockets so they can go up to see their newborn 5th child, all of a sudden BEEEEEEEP! Trauma phone, "MVA, 19yo, severe trauma."
Luckily I didn't see him but I guess most of his brain was out, he went through the windshield. The shit part was I had to process the family. Looked like a nice suburban bunch. First the mom who could barely speak, then the sister who couldn't stop crying long enough to tell me her name. Had to send 'em to the social worker (bad times ahead if they send you to social first), then eventually the grandparents, the grandma either had a nervous disorder or was violently shaking from the shock, probably only in her 50's but couldn't stand.
Anyway, long story short, kid actually made it but greased a young mother and her two children, dead at the scene, and had alcohol in his system.
I went home and did normal Christmas shit like these people were probably doing the moment before the phone rang, so I see how some can dismiss the horror and develop a bias like OP. Christmas is joyous and all but I'd trade all the yuletide joy to spare those people a minute of all that.
