"I, for one, can't complain too much." Though Ruby's smugness threatened to fray over the monotony, she was still enthusiastic about the complexity behind the bureaucracy's factionalism. "A shame that those on the top have entrenched themselves so much and are too short-sighted to understand what a boon it would be to have a Savant in their corner. This would make an ideal place for me to lay out my web."
"Sir!" Gerty said. "Forgive me for stating the obvious, but our progress to get that patent is minimal."
"We can all fucking see that, you stupid bitch." You said, wanting to at least make this a bearable experience to your wives.
"Forgive me, Master!" She replied happily.
"Master, can we slow down? I think I might've dropped some files..." Said Herta. She and Gerty both volunteered to hold the ever growing stack of papers, with the two of them alternating the duty.
Thankfully this wasn't an entire waste of time. You were able to make some connections while gaining knowledge of the place thanks to the near endless wild goose chase.
You also found a couple new species here:
Your first encounter with gnomes was in this building— though like dwarves, their kind was distinct because of the pointy red hats they always wore and their less muscular builds. A constant whiny tone was present in their voices, which you at first thought was an unfortunate decision of nature or some sort of cosmic joke, were it not for the spiteful and easily offended personality they had, walking around like they owned everything and everyone.
"Now, now, look at what you've made me do!" Said a gnome to an elvish clerk after the gnome 'accidentally' poured some ink on the papers she was carrying. "I expect this to all be redone by hand by tomorrow morning!"
Their petty and cartoonish villainy was almost hilarious.
Where the elves tended to be clerks and bureaucrats, the gnomes here were managers, bankers, and 'financial investors and advisors in liquid assets'. That last one seemed to not mean anything, but nevertheless more than once you'd find yourself being subject to their bragging when they realized you were a Savant.
You weren't particularly impressed by them, though you were happy they weren't as bloodthirsty as you expected them to be. Yet more than once you had to stop Gerty from yelling as she demanded they show you more respect, which they seemed to interpret as you seeing them as superior (which more than once they alluded towards). Though this would quickly be tempered when you defended your wives from getting bullied and harassed by those shorter men.
The other species you'd find would be the arachne. They were the standard mix of human and spider you'd usually find in anime. Despite mostly being maids and working other menial jobs, they generally acted more cold and callous than any other species you'd found so far, and they seemed to like arguing with others.
