In Pomas, he's aware that he's not great at first impressions. He does try to work on it improving that in the little story event though, which was very cute. The big ones are his need to be your BEST friend and his battle skills. Arven definitely feels insecure about someone else getting closer to you, probably because he doesn't want to lose someone important to him again. He doesn't want to be alone again.
His grades probably aren't great because he's behind and hasn't been putting in the effort to study, but I don't think he's as insecure about that. He does have a bit of dialogue in the clubroom that he wants to get better at battling and gets upset when Nemona overhears. It's probably more because he knows that she's very one track minded when it comes to battles, but I also think he's the type to maybe work on stuff that he might struggle with in private. It always seemed like battling wasn't as big as a priority for him and he was okay with that, so when he does decide to improve, he's a little insecure about people finding out. He wants to be equals and not feel like he's lagging behind.
It might be cute if he was a little insecure about his height since he's sorta short. It would make him calling you "little buddy" a little cuter too, since you're shorter than him so he can actually call you that.
