real life mixers are supposed to be held between two groups of people that dont normally get a chance to mix ie a college sorority and a college fraternity where people go in certain colors or grab certain colored cups to designate their relationship status
these work well because;
those people don't meet often in such a large social setting
the colors make it easy to approach someone who might be looking for what you're looking for
neither of these work well for xivg because there isnt a crazy amount of new people that join and the ones who do are already in established groups and almost nobody actually honors the color code

it's basically another hangout with people in certain colors
