Granville T. Woods had a lot of patents for things related to electric transit, including this system for picking up power for streetcars using an underground vault similar to cable cars. It was used in Manhattan, Washington D.C. and London, where they didn’t want trolley wires in the city. I know a lot of “black inventors” stuff is bs but this guy was legit.
