Samantha:
>Be brave.
An ominous door stands slightly ajar in front of her. The girl stares with wide eyes, her breaths stilted. An unfamiliar, unpleasant odor hung in the air.
Samantha knew. Deep in her heart, she knew. In the darkness beyond that door, there was something she was never meant to see. It was dangerous. She was at the edge of a precipice, and if she took just one more step… it’d be something she could never come back from.
Tears begin to well at the corner of her eyes. …She wanted to go home.
“Samantha. Breathe. Follow their lead. You just need to confirm that what they’re claiming is true. Just a bit more, and I’ll get you out of there, safe and sound.”
No. Please no. The girl’s lip quivers. She couldn’t do this anymore. Up until this point, she’d never realized how precious her life had really been. Going to school with her friends, suffering through late nights of homework, washing the dishes with her mom. She’d stupidly considered all of that worthless and boring. She’d thought that because it was normal, because anyone could have that life, it didn’t mean anything. Because she was just a regular girl, an insignificant fraction of a fraction of everything going on in the world, her life was meaningless.
People always said, ‘you never really appreciate what you have until it’s taken away’. Now, when those innocent days were on the line, she truly understood what that meant.
Clover gently takes the girl’s shaking hands into her own. Samantha turns to her, on the verge of tears.
“Sammy… I’ve only known you for an hour or so, but I feel like I’ve known you for my whole life. You’re a part of my pack now… and it’s a pack leader’s job to look out for her pack-mates.” The wolf-girl puts a hand on her shoulder. "Whatever's waiting for us in there could be dangerous. Really dangerous, even for magical girls. And if it's not waiting in there, well... then it's somewhere."
Samantha still didn’t really know what the girl was talking about. But, she knew it was something she’d be better off not finding out.
“I’m pretty sure you’re not one of us, and I don’t want you to get hurt…” Clover begins to lead her back to the main road. At the alley’s end, she gives her a light push, away from the darkness. “So please, Sam-Sam… go home.”
