I served in Saint Timothy’s exact unit and company, years after him. Aco 1-16 Infantry out of Fort Riley Kansas. Both him and Terry have a legacy and it gave me a really good understanding of how that went down.
Most people don’t realize that the bomb was built on that base, by disgruntled American soldiers. The storage unit and truck rental that they used is literally the first business outside Fort Riley’s main gate. The bomb was assembled at Geary Lake park, also bordering the base. The park is where everyone goes to drink and hang out after work.
Also, I don’t believe that bomb was built from ANFO and stolen Tovex. It was far more likely a classic, Iraqi style VBIED, made from 155 rounds that Tim, Terry and others stole while on ammo pad guard.
Every lower enlisted infantryman on Fort Riley gets that ammo guard. I’ve done it dozens of times. The ammo pads are located way out on the prairie and you and a buddy just sit in a shack for 3 day shifts watching the stuff. It’s like some Dances with Wolves shit. There’s no cameras, there’s no phone, there’s no fences. Just you and a box of MREs. We could have taken anything we wanted. The ANFO/Tovex story makes no sense when you take this into account.
