Other thing to keep in mind is cover height, behind good cover like an embrasure pawns will crouch down, leaving only head and some of the upper body exposed. And this shit is actually a big disadvantage against pikemen and all snipers in general, they can ONLY hit head and upper body(like shoulders and neck) because it is the only thing exposed while you are behind embrasure. And because their guns are accurate as fuck, they will hit consistently.
In practice it looks like this - a pawn wearing masterwork marine helmet and armor, covering behind embrasure, took about 15 round to the head and upper body only. Every shot damaged the helmet, eventually lovering it protection enough for sharp penetration to go through causing bleeding and damage to the brain.
On the other hand, pawn wearing the same stuff in open field took more than 25 rounds with only bruises, because some of the shots landed on limbs and torso. Still, it seems that pikemen aim for the head regardless, but in open field they can miss and hit other body parts.
TLDR: Pikemen are snipers and made to counter your static defenses, don't try to hose them down with HMG at extreme ranges hoping for lucky hits, they likely will outrage and outaim you.
