Uhh it was really a surprising thing when you self-described this ideology as middle-class because it's surprisingly accurate, that's where the sentiment comes from. People who are self-employed/small-business owners see the development of new machinery as a hostile thing. Because it's bad for them. Either because it devalues their specialised skill, or because they can't compete with big business using the new technology (for a topical example see the anti-AI sentiement. It's because AI hurts middle class/self-employed jobs like commission artists and intellectuals, and it was developed and only ever could have been developed by big business with their huge resources). And this makes them imagine (and many more people since small business worship is huge) that it's the technology which is the thing oppressing them, and if only we returned to a simplier time before the huge town plastic civilization, before modern industry and the hated monopolies and their sophisticated global supply chains and massive systems of production, then those evil big businsses (which are different from small ones because uhhh) would no longer be ruining my livlihood and we wouldn't have any ugly big factories and everyone could live in wholesome solarpunk cottagecore communes and be his own boss and be spiritually/morally hygenic in poverty. But self-affirmation is still not possible in this society.

That's not to say I'm a fan of the current society and its smog and microplastics I just see it as the same as the one outlined above since there are the same unseen ties pulling on everyone. Really we can only progress beyond the current society.

>but yeah obviously doing that every fucking day can get pretty old and even harmful to us zoomers, bearers of the original modern day sin which is the internet and the convenience of technology and goyslop
Ehh I was talking about lorry drivers and people who have to drive for work
