I used Huion 1060 plus for first year, and I never had any problems with it.
But it was 2 years ago, maybe there are better options these days. I heard xpen is decent but can't really confirm it.
These days I am using Huion Kamvas Pro 16

The only thing I would pay attention is not buying too small tablet, since you need to more your entire arm while drawing.

For me it was around 1 year, I think? And don't only practice. Draw stuff and make pieces as well.
Just practicing is great way to burn yourself out. I did notice my skill improved a lot when I started making actual drawings and participating in aggies
