>I think the western audience seems to prefer fleshies over vtubers unlike the Japanese speaking market
I disagree that there is a distinction. There is a cemetery just as deep in the JP side of low 2 views and even one view Indies and CORPORATE vtubers alike with the ones seen on vstats being only the ones big enough to warrant getting tracked.
My take on that is that the success by Hololive (and relative success by Nijisanji) fooled all of these small corpos into thinking they can get a piece of the pie WITHOUT doing the heavy lift
>proprietary software to smooth the rough edges of the trade
>relationship with riggers and illustrators
>in house staff for management and support
>adherence to the whims of the gaming industry in order to secure a relationship and potential partnerships
It's easy to understand why too: Hololive (and to a point, Nijisanji) succeeded DESPITE their management practices which in hindsight from ANY point were always ridiculously flawed.
The temptation is to think
>I can do Hololive, but better and without making the same mistakes
and that lure is what fucked AkioAir, idol Corp and even VShojo among other corpos that underestimated the depth of the hole.
Hololive is in that situation where they succeeded at the same time DESPITE their management and because of it too.
Despite them because they're absolute fuckups (in hindsight) but because of it because they could have been much worse and ended up like the rest of these dead companies
