This could be the case I think it's more the case who ever shot him was trained ex military my guess the shot was single shot into the jugular standard kill shot for snipers they die quick but it's violent enough that it makes whoever is next to them think twice about engaging and leaving the field of combat or they try and grab their buddies weapon (Like a RPG) and get zipped as well for their troubles.
