That's more or less what I did. I stayed inside until they started trashing the ship. Then I popped out and gunned them down. Buckshot on the unarmored guys.

The final one, the one in power armor, I had bought a shock lance in case I got a raid with one of these guys. I took him down with the shock lance.
The shotgunners are also carrying slugs so i could maybe have taken him down normally, but a lance has two charges and I get the armor undamaged. Deserter armor has some insane buffs (1.7 weapon handling, +60 accuracy).
I was also not very confident I could take him out with slugs. the wood elves are genetically delicate so I don't expect them to last long in melee.

It's a little surprising, but unlike shotgun slugs, the concussion grenades would not penetrate deserter armor. They have 32 MPa blunt penetration, and that is exactly how much the armor has.
