The pale scales worked better for the aesthetic, and I'm not sure if you can even make Xaela tan.

Kinda cool lore, I like the priestly looks and the elemental magic (which we don't have anymore!). Restoring hp is also cooler than just mitigation, even if statistically speaking it's weaker.
