Honestly, I imagine that it would be turned into farms, mines, refineries, etc. These areas would likely be too far from urban areas to really turn into suburbs.

This is fair. I just don't see the point. If it's some Senator's pet provision, then I barely bother. We're adding new provisions to subsidize whaling into the OBBB now for Alaska. My first thought was that I asked: "Isn't commerical whaling illegal?" But I guess it's an exemption to the MMPA now, and it's a federally-subsidized industry. Neat! More jobs for Alaskans, more votes in the Senate.
