Turns out that after I got reunited with Blue at the fireworks and my inventory got shuffled, the silver key that was necessary to progress the game just disappeared from my inventory along with one of the chaos emeralds. It's also not in the storage. I would not even know that I still need this item, unless I'd read the guide.
