There is speculation that the Uncanny Valley exists because at some point, many thousands of years ago in pre-history, there existed a creature/species that either closely resembled us or could mimic our form almost perfectly. These beings traumatised us so completely that it's been hard coded into the core of our species to be disgusted and repelled by things that try to mimic or appear as one of us.
