While understandable, Magnolia portrays it's story and interactions as such because it is not meant to be a hopeless world. You know where to go and you are surrounded with people because you are not meant to be in constant danger nor are you meant to feel despair, unlike with Lilies which did all of these with the simple yet well-executed way of having everyone already be dead.
So i understand people preferring Lilies for all this. And while i prefer its atmosphere as well, i absolutely preferred Magnolia's story compared to it because having to understand a story divided through items and notes throughout the game is very tiresome and annoying, to the point that i'm shocked to see so many people liking it that way.
