Dynamis is also not supposed to work on dense souls so it would have be a consequence of the sundering thinning the soul and then imprinting Hermes' yearning for the stars on his fragments.

I think it's more likely that they wanted the idea that you're still the same person even after your reincarnation. Hence why the player character is an adventurer for most of the game before we learn why. So no really metaphysical explanation for it.
