I call it "conversational narration", whereas the usual narrator is some omniscient voice that simply gives exposition. The conversational narrator feels like it's speaking to the reader rather than simply telling a story, usually with some affection. I've dabbled in that style myself, and I think it makes for some interesting prose, but it can turn people off who don't enjoy accents or certain ways of talking.
