Can't speak for the migration modeling, other than that we know that the proto-indo-europeans, who are a portion of our genetic (for some Europeans upwards of half our DNA), cultural, and linguistic roots, were present on the Russian steppes north of the black sea.
I have read that some are changing their models to show the inverse, where the Caucasian steppe herders migrated from Europe instead.
