As someone who doesn't like IDW's writing but also doesn't hate most of its new ideas, all they'd really need to do to make me happy with any IDW stuff in the mainline games is to keep it mild and leave most of the side character angst to the actual comics themselves. Ideally I think they'd be totally fine if they were written by Toyoda or something but I'd just have to hope that Flynn's taken a lot of the feedback from Frontiers/ShadGens to heart
Like Jewel can run a shop or something and maybe have some locales as an area. Both Tangle and Whisper seem like they could have fun playstyles, SRB2 has a really fun Tangle mod that makes use of her tail for momentum and you could probably have some crazy stance moveset swapping with Whisper (use a Laser wisp to go really fast, then a Hover wisp to maintain that speed in the area, and finally use a Rocket wisp to blow up some boss, etc.)

However, I also think that Tangle/Whisper in general are still extremely low on the totem pole. They're like Chaotix and Babylon Rogues-tier where they'll probably be shoe-ins for spinoffs here on out but I can't really see them doing anything significant ever again. Obviously it's great for their fans that they're canon but I can't really see them taking any significant center stage when the games right now already can't really handle more than half a dozen characters at once.
