I've never had a gpu die but my golden silicon R9 290x (which could do 1200mhz core) now really can't hold that even when fed 1.4v which is the limit of regular OC software. Still the 1400fps was done on a 7900xtx and iirc was still below 100% usage as my 5800x3d isn't fast enough to keep up with said 7900xtx in that scenario.
