Earlier today (or yesterday) marked 10 years since Rarity Investigates! aired. It was the second of the triple Rarity episodes of Season 5. Pic attached sure was something back then.

Rarity Investigates.

Those are basically props to add to the atmosphere. They don't actually interact with the plot, which is about Rarity's astuteness and eye for detail even when she's being dramatic.
If that's not enough for you, then try Inspiration Manifestation, which is about aesthetics in general. It also happens to be the only good Spike episode precisely because he's not totally lobotomised and shows the desire to be a good, responsible friend, even though he's still somewhat immature.
