You are a newfag, In terms of aesthetics, the REmake was pretty much considered part of a different timeline with games like Outbreak and Dead Aim as its actual sequels. This doesn't mean the events of RE2 and RE3 didn't happen, they were just not shown to the player. At least until Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles presented a glimpse of what could've been.

I wouldn't say that the RE engine remakes are bad per se but they are indeed an extreme departure from the previous remake timeline to the point they feel much closer in both aesthetics and lore to the Paul Anderson movies. Hell, the RE2 remake looks more like a sequel to the 2002 Anderson movie than the actual 2002 RE1 remake. In a similar ironic sense, the movie RE Apocalypse feels closer to the 2002 RE1 remake than the recent RE engine RE2 & RE3 remakes.
