Because Sans in Deltarune wouldn’t be the one to remember anything of the FUN game if this is supposed to be his backstory and original world. And he implies heavily this isn’t his original world, and yet he has some reason to really care about Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, and having severe trauma of losing them
>(It’s a poorly drawn image of three people.)
>“don’t forget”
>”You will never see them again.”
Being the “new guy” for events that occurred less-than-a-week.
However, if Sans is Lancer from the original fulfilled Deltarune, trying to break its fate on this new world. Everything lines up about him way too naturally. And why Sans is even here in the first place.
What’s more is that Ramb reveals in chapter 3 that the Darkners we see were imagined and created by Dess, and Sans for some reason lives in a Christmas town in Undertale and considers the “Knight-like” Papyrus as a brother. And Rouxls Kaard himself is considered as Lancer’s “lesser dad”. You know, W.D. Gaster in plain sight, speaking with hands in chapter 3. With Rouxls/Gaster and Lancer both manipulating the battle systems to act as how they want them to, just like Sans does in his fight.
The thing is, Michael has both versions of himself in this game. FRIEND (what he will become) and Pizzapants (what he used to be). And the Prince of the Dark has always been a role Lancer can fulfill. But if he was older, more experienced, more aware, and able to remain in the light world, he would be able to takeover the position entirely without a doubt.
Making this dynamic we previously can’t take seriously with Lancer and Ralsei into one we have to actually consider, since older Lancer is far stronger than Ralsei and probably will look more like the mural in the dark world.
