>i'm considering getting gothic on sale right now
Oh dear, as much as Gothic in particular Gothic 2: NotR is one of my favorite games, I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone. It's just so old and has so much weird jank that will put off anyone who isn't used to it. And even then, at least G2:NotR these days I only play a modded version that doubles your skill points per level, because in vanilla game the leveling is way too restrictive. Still, what a shame that the franchise abruptly ended after the second game.

As for other RPGs, some I enjoyed recently were Cat Quest 1 and 2 and Asterigos. Cat Quests are quite simple but very enjoyable and shockingly well put together for a game meant for children. Asterigos is weirdly niche and unheard of, but it's the first time I managed to really enjoy a rollslop. Part of the reason could be that it has a young redhead girl protagonist.

So, did you guys like the ending of the game?

I recently replayed Planescape: Torment. The game isn't exactly similar to Omori, though I guess you could force some similarities. The protagonist's sense of guilt becomes the focus of the final parts of both games. Mari also quite strongly reminds be of a certain ghost, too. But it also reminded me that Torment has easily the best ending of any game I've played. With Omori, even after so many replays, I always felt unsatisfied with the ending.
