A "one-note" character is a character in a story who is defined by a single trait, emotion, or behavior and rarely, if ever, deviates from it. This makes them feel flat, predictable, and unrealistic.
one-note characters are:
-Lacks depth or complexity
-Doesn’t grow or change over time
-Defined by a single idea, like always being angry, sarcastic, shy, evil, etc.
Often serves a limited narrative role (e.g. comic relief, villain, love interest) without development
Example:
A character who is always angry and never shows vulnerability, empathy, or a different emotion would be considered one-note, unless their anger is deeply explored or evolves over the course of the story.
