This former atheist died and was confronted by Jesus, and then after he was essentially given a tour of all the different torments in hell. One of the things that he noticed is that he himself and others were at first deceived into thinking that they had arrived in some kind of paradise. He says that this must be why some people have a near-death experience where they experience seemingly a heavenly place, and then they get resuscitated and believe they went to heaven.
