Rachel was not meaningfully a character in LiS 1. There are only a few details we can extrapolate about her from LiS 1.
She is a manipulative sociopath in BtS.
So I think you have to sympathize somewhat with the comic author, since the only way they could have included her in the comics -in that happy relationship with Chloe- was by sandblasting away all of her personality. She is nothing in LiS 1 and utterly toxic in BtS, so to meet that mandate for a happy amberprice timeline in the comic, they had no real choice but to create comic Rachel; Effectively a brand new character.

In the tragic romance genre the only two options for the star crossed lovers trope is for the characters to either die together or make some horrible sacrifice in order to start a new life together.
Bae is really the only ending that is in line with genre conventions. Platonic Bae is not even worth addressing but has some real lesbophobic undertones (as you would expect from non-queer dudes writing a sapphic romance).
