Let me remind you that Krishna/Vishnu (also associated with snakes) live on a planet (literally, but it's a wonderful planet) and periodically they come to some world. So, if you don't know what kind of technology this is, of course, it all looks like magic to you. Perhaps these are some kind of interdimensional holes or a planet-farm, and the owners periodically visit the planet (and a harvest occurs. The Revelation of John literally describes a harvest, perhaps this is related to the ominous green color).
