It's funny, shit has now clicked with me - they're trying to roll out IDs not as some big brain 200IQ chessmaster domination plan, the "problem" is that when there weren't as many bots festering in every corner of the web, pinching your IDs simply wasn't even necessary because they could just organically harvest all your data, as the chances of you being a bot were much more slim back then; trying to make people for over IDs now is basically a shitty hotfix to a figurative and literal artificial problem that exponentially spiked very recently
