>what's the difference between Kazakh and Kyrgiz? USSR named Kazahstan initially Kyrgiz ASSR
When the mongols advanced westward and the jochi arrived at the kyrgyz in 1207 with a 20k army, we didn't fight them. But our western kipchak brothers, however didn't want to unite with them and decided to fight.
Ultimately, virtually all the kipchaks were exterminated. Some took refuge in hungary, but their wives and children became the wives/slaves of mongol soldiers. Over time, these mongol soldiers (most of whom could have been kyrgyz or other turkic peoples) were completely Turkified.
This is how the uzbeks emerged, and the nogai/kazakhs broke away from them in 1400+.
In short, the kazakhs are the descendants of those very same mongol army and local kipchak women.
