I calm my nerves about free will by realizing that the amount of factors in the world makes it so that even if there is no free will, there is no predicting the future. So if everything really is predetermined, either by higher beings or by grand scale mathematics of all the atoms in the universe, the story will be just as unique and interesting as if I did have free will, at least to my relatively tiny brain. There is no knowing, and once I realized there's little difference, it became less of a burden to think about and more of an intrigue.
