Unfortunately, most shit has gotten paywalled or has disappeared off the internet thanks to zoomers not liking to read. Almost feels like it's 2001-2004 again, back with the internet crash and free money no longer being a thing.

And i wouldn't say that toys sales have stagnated (aside from COVID fuckig everything over) because sales have increased.
Do note that you don't see anything from 2024 because of how long it takes for them to tally and figure that shit out.

>many studies and charts actually heap in "hobby" sales like Pokemon cards which shows waaaay more growth than there realistically is for action figures alone.
This shouldn't matter, because those sales have been included by research/survey groups like TRST/NPD since at least 2002 or 2003 (people on GAF used to have access to their data). It just shows what types of toys are popular, hence NPD charging otu the ass for their reports, because toy companies want to know what the next new hot thing is to copy.
So if cards are super popular in 2021-2025 and action figure sales are also down, well, it might be because kids are buying cards instead of actiojn figures, and NPD's data would reflect that by showing card sales going up while action figures sales are going down. And NPD does break down the ages of who buys what too, btw, even asking if they're buying it for someone else and their a/s/l/$.
NPD does some really fascinated shit. They even used to freely publish articles (minus sales/unit data) until like 2005, where they'd talk about why sales are up for X and/or down for Q. I used to do surveys for them back in the day too. Weekly/monthly about my buying habits and if i said i bought a video game/toy that month/week, they'd send me extra surveys to ask me questions about that.

I really like this chart. You can definitely see how Star Wars and Avengers made 2019 bigger than normal
