well, the actual reason they didn't translate them is because they knew they'd be too hard for western gamers, and they also knew that Americans in particular had short temper and access to guns, so they were ultimately just trying to preclude some nutjob from a right-wing/christian family getting his dad's Colt .45 and wasting his whole family just because he didn't understand Boko's explanation of the job system.

Of course, in retrospect, we know this is comical, because a child in a right-wing/christian family would have been forbidden from playing a satanic game like Final Fantasy V, anyway, for promoting things like black magic, chemistry, and caring about future generations.
