Why is rap so heavily pushed nowadays?

Kendrick, Clipse, JID, Freddie Gibbs, all are being hailed as the current saviours of Western music. Rappers and hip hop producers are considered the greatest “musicians” of the past 50 years. The charts are dominated by rap albums. What’s going on? This isn’t organic in any way.
