Deadly Silence is honestly my favorite version of RE1, but it has its own issues. I really hate the knife battle sequences, for example, where you're forced into first person view and made to use the DS stylus to fight off a hoard of enemies. There's also a new boss fight in that version that takes place exclusively in first person with the knife. I also disliked the new treasure box puzzles, where a blue treasure chest was added to safe rooms and to get into them, the player has to solve a psuedo lockpicking puzzle involving moving around gemstones with their stylus pen. There's also a shitty puzzle in the neptune area which necessitates the player to use the microphone by blowing into it. Aside from those though the game is a blast and makes a lot of neat changes.
Enemy count is very high, comparable to higher difficulties of REmake, but the player is encouraged to actually fight more than they would in other versions of the game, particularly because their knife is now always available without taking up inventory, and mapped to the left shoulder button. The player's inventory and the map and file menu are always accessible too by taking advantage of the dual screen, which is a huge QoL upgrade. It also used to have a completely kickass multiplayer battle game, but obviously, you can't play it anymore unless you have a friend who also has a DS/3DS to play it with via setting up a connection on your router just for it.

A couple of things. They're way less threatening than the Gammas in the original 3 and Outbreak, they also look way worse to me by contrast - the eyecatching blue and red looked really cool to me, and also, the setting of the sewer is really shit and unmemorable to me as opposed to the Zoo from RE3. It was very memorable getting jumped from the water under an observation bridge, panicking, and potentially getting vored with an instant kill grab if your health was yellow or lower.
