I think the difference between EN and JP is that JP fans treat their vtubers as actual professionals and hold them to the professional standards you'd expect in an actual job. Meanwhile in the west before vtubers were ever a thing, we just treated our streamers like degen entertainment monkeys. Plenty of them do whatever they want, get into drama, fight with each other, and we as the viewers cheer them on. This culture bleeds over to various extents in the EN vtuber fandom. A corpo burns down? Time to grab some popcorn. Doki and the other ex-Nijis tell us compelling stories about how shit it was? Fuck that corpo! Indies fight and dockey eachother? We'll all get into fights about who's in the right on Twitter but still watch them because we like how their tits jiggle. We tend to be highly individualistic, so if we simply like one thing more than another we'll support it just because we feel like it. Many of the biggest, most likeable, and most talented Nijis were the ones to leave. So when push comes to shove, many would rather support the likeable and entertaining ex-Nijis over the mediocre to downright shitty livers still festering in Nijisanji. While the Japanese want their vtubers to act properly according to societal standards, we live for entertainment.
