Highly intelligent gets through school like a breeze, it's nothing to him. He doesn't have to struggle or work for most of the time in the school. It weakens him. He gets praised for doing nothing but heyyyy you got big grades goooood job son! (fuck the fact that these big grades didn't require any, one, fucking effort from the high iq guy, just pick the pen and write)
Then later the high IQ dude, who did nothing for 17 years, is in pain. Because he knows he has huge potential, just doesn't has exactly the tools to manifest it, because he just isn't used to work hard, focus etc. all the stuff needed to all kinds of success.

Add to the above lack of father, aka the figure which will actually try to lead you through life, teach you, or at least fucking force you to do fucking anything, because of love, and you get the kid who does literally anything he wants for the most of his school years, because he doesn't need to study, and nobody is leading him in any way.

Fatherlessness is second reason
Third is the lack of cohesive, fundamental worldview, system of morals, (Orthodox Christianity) provided to this kid, so he has a foundation. Instead, he searches for meaning and truth and all he finds is 1% maybe-christian parents who maybe prayed like 20 years ago and that's the closest he gets in his childhood. All the world bombards kids with nihilism, atheism, and just basically "just live it brah, do what you want brah" dumb, mindless, hedonistic bullshit, which will most probably wreck the high IQ guy, cause high IQ actually think about their worldview and will more like to live according to it, although that's just my opinion
