UBI: what it is and what it isn't
UBI is not communism. UBI is a "social safety net" but also, a repudiation of the coercion economic theory (that forced work is the only way of life preferable or possible)
UBI is not "money for everyone", rather, it's proper label is Universal (means-tested) MINIMUM (the minimum amount of income for food, shelter, utilities, and insurance) Income: cash, using existing ATM type distribution.
Detractors say "no one would work", no one would take out the garbage or work at McDonalds, but this is pleading. The vast majority of people will never be satisfied with "the minimum". The perceived value of labor of all kinds would only go up. Capitalism would rise in public esteem and respect.
Detractors say it would devalue work but that's bullshit.
Detractors' arguments largely fall in line with stupid Republicanism, which considers people to basically be craven, lazy worms, and the current system basically insults young people in this way.
Detractors say it would be expensive but it literally pencils out to about 44 million payments to people who already recieve SNAP, medicare, food stamps, Rent assistance, cash assistance, and so forth, which are dispensed via a complex series of limited handouts.
Affordable housing is a seperate issue. Mental and physical health services are a seperate issue, Detractors mix these issues in with their stupid complaints.
Detractors say we can't pay for it but the math pencils out, these 44 million people and their benefits cost more than the single payment, with associated bureaceracy.
Detractors paint UBI recievers as worthless when in fact the UBI would destroy coercive captalist effects on people, namely, the fact that the labor market is made captive for corporations, who would not have to otherwsie pay a labor rate set by a market for free (voluntary) labor. Our economy is characterised by exploitative corporations that exist only becuase they can hire people who have no other choice.
