Creation is all about motivation. what are you motivated by? if its money, it will show in your work, no matter what you make. ironically picrel is a good example of an artist motivated by money: pandering with vapid coomerbait character designs.

There will always be grifters in the arts, so long as they are allowed to profit from it. A creator who doesnt take money for his work effectively removes any chance to be accused of being money motivated. To some mouth breathers that will translate as: that art is "better" because of it.
Critically, not always. but in the spirit of art and creation, yes, it always is.
