They are one of the few bird species to develop a primate style brain structure through convergent evolution. They have big spiriform nuclei which function in a similar fashion to the pontine nuclei that primates have at quite the large size. But while they are similar, the spiriform is a massive highway that loops the cerebellums pathways to several regions of the brain which the pontine does as well but actually routes far less regions of the brain in comparison to the spiriform. In other words, they are ape brained but ironically have far better infomation processing than actual apes themselves. It is also important to note that this level of intelligence is very different to corvids as their brain wiring is different but neuron dense regardless. Parrots are as close to sapience as you can get within the realm of animal sentience and they will remind you of that at every oppertunity.
