I feel like the idea that modern SpongeBob makes faces for the memes is only slightly true. You can tell most artists are trying moreso to aim for that Spumco look, but there are some occasional moments boarded by younger artists that give off "face made to be reaction image" vibe.

That only just feels like a side effect of having an artist driven show where the people behind it are given a lot of creative freedom, real meme faces would slide through the cracks.
