fruit trees have a variety of traits that govern their health and survivability and the fruits themselves have a bunch of different traits that determine taste and texture qualities, shelf life, looks, flowering and ripening time and viability, resistance to regional stresses and pathogens, etc. breeding them is gacha and when you get a good one that not only tastes good but grows reliably, you can just take pieces of it off and grow clones, which allows exponentially more clones until there's a while industry around it. all that to say, all fruit varieties are genetically identical clones of each other with the "variety" referring to the genetic individual they are all copies of. all honeycrisp apples are the same guy, for example.

the more surprising fact is that older (centuries old) less viable clone lines are often still around in private gardens in regions where they don't get instakilled by modern pathogens. most apples do horribly in my area because of the humidity but there are both modern varieties that resist the fungi and "traditional southern apples" that have a higher general viability in the area due to thicker skins, tougher texture, etc.
