SMARTku working Buu like that was one of the smartest things in the manga, it's so perfectly executed that it's funny. A few seconds of seeing that megalomaniac barely tardwrangling a universal threat and even Goku figures out how to win without fighting.

On topic, this is a well-executed timeskip (Cell into Buu Saga) compared to Naruto's. Goku here is acting like someone who's had seven years training and reflecting with the greatest heroes to live in other world (I know the tournament was filler but he still had experiences like that, he picked up Metamoran Fusion there).
