I can’t say just one genre is “the best”. I focus more on what genres produce the best albums. Sludge Metal, Stoner Metal, Slam/BDM and War/Bestial Black Metal churned out some of the best albums in the past 30 years. Hardcore as well but not Metal.

Knocked Loose, Drain, Full of Hell, Harm’s Way, Kruelty, Snuffed on Sight, Peelingflesh, Sanguisugabogg, Big Ass Truck, Gideon, Kublai Khan TX, Infectious Jelqing, Corpse Pile, 200 Stab Wounds and Bodybox are the most important bands right now that matter.
