>There's a difference between regular Orthodoxy and whatever the fuck the Russians are doing - their church is basically a government-sponsored cult
They never had a Reformation which is what produced Protestantism but also pushed the Catholic Church to draw sharper lines between the sacred and the secular. I'm not a historian of religion though but the Tsar had a divine mandate and God's stamp of approval, kind of like spiritual leader and ruler combined. The Bolsheviks (radical iconoclasts) shooting the Tsar is kind of like killing God in a sense. Then they established a totalitarian materialistic atheist state like if the Imperium was overthrown by the Cult Mechanicus.

>russia is neither based nor traditional.
The state ideology if they have one now is rather strange because Putin and a lot of the olds are Soviet people. They grew up in the Soviet system. But the vision/vibe/ideology the Russian government has been fashioning for consumption is not based on Marxist materialism but ideas pulled from Ivan Ilyin who was a White emigre who had Orthodox conservative authoritarian ideas (and was sympathetic to fascism). So this is how you get a Russian narrative that the West will collapse from within but instead of the internal contradictions of capitalism as during Soviet times it's rendered in moral / spiritual terms / culture war.
