Given what we know of Quanxi, he probably abandoned his kids to be raised by their grandmother (his mum) and buggered off on adventures, maybe set them a challenge to come take him on once they were strong enough. Because he was deposed by Blackbeard during the TS, Caribou changed his mission to either serving Blackbeard, or killing him, possibly both, and taking over Skull Island either way.
